Urban Streetwear is defined as "a style of Casual clothing which became global in the 1990s". It grew from New York Hip-Hop fashion and eventually moved to California surf/skate culture, to encompass elements of sportswear, punk, and Japanese street fashion. Track suits and lifestyle tennis shoes are just two examples of casual streetwear attire.

Streetwear has even started to take over haute couture. Luxury streetwear brands include Supreme, Off-White, Kith, Kenzo, etc. Top luxury designers such as Louis Vuttion, have started to look at these brands as equals and have even have started to release collaborations with them in order to broaden their target market.

Many brands including Champion, have reinvented themselves to appeal to the "hype beast" of the world. Streetwear companies' marketing strategies are unique as well. Brands are not not just reinventing their styles but also the way they reach people. Many Streetwear companies are highly pushed through social media and music. From their they are able to catch the attention of the young adults of the world.

Streetwear has been a large part of the fashion and music culture yet it is rarely taught in Fashion Programs at SEC Universities. I feel that many professors do not even know the large impact that this style has had on the industry. If we want to prepare fashion students for the world then I strongly feel that the topic of streetwear needs to be addressed in the classroom.
